sorry, I am new to this component and couldn't find any good documentation on how to go about this, so I figured I'd ask here.
I've current setup an article that was designed to be a custom 404 page. How do I go about in making all broken urls point to that custom 404 joomla article page?
I currently have joomla sef (.htaccess) on
Thanks

Hi, sorry for lack of documentation.
I'm working on a new release where you can use an article as error page and with a documentation.
For now, you can create an item in ReDJ error pages, put your HTML code inside, and use the id of this item in plugin setting to specify the custom error page.
The new release will solve this problem letting you to use an article as alternative custom erro page.
Regards,
Luigi

Good to know! Can you also make it possible to point to a menu item? Like if someone wanted to point to a component page.
When can we expect a new release?
Thanks btw for making such a great extension.

In the next release you will be able to choose as custom erro page between an item ID, an article ID or a generic URL (that can render any page, and also a menu item URL).
I'll release ReDJ in a few days (I'm testing new functionalities).
Happy new year,
Luigi

Hi Luigi,
Just wondered if this update has been released yet?
I installed this extension a few days ago and at the moment I'm not really sure where to start and it would be useful to have some sort of document explaining how to setup a custom error page and how to setup the redirects etc.
From reading some posts on this forum, it seems that if I do use custom error pages with redj that I will then have to make some amendments in the htaccess file. I do not have a clue at present as to what it is that I should edit in the htaccess file?
Lastly, I moved my old site to a new domain; is it possible to setup a redirect that takes a user to the homepage for any url that hasn't been setup as a redirect?

About the first question (article inclusion) the answer is yes. Since 1.3 is possible to include an article in custom error page using the following macro:
{article ID} Include an article (intro e fulltext).
About .htaccess, if you use it, it can be useful to set the ErrorDocument so that any calls, even the wrong one, are passed to Joomla.
This could be used for your third question, but be aware that the return code is always 404. You'd like that for any non-existing URL ser get a 302 (redirect) to home page of the site. This can be a new feature of ReDJ plugin (is just an option check in error handler). I should be also a good idea to return a 200 (but I need to think how to do it).
Regards,
Luigi

Hi Luigi,
Thank you for your reply, however it wasn't really clear for me what to do; I really need more basic instructions.
You said:
{article ID} Include an article (intro e fulltext).
I have absolutely no idea where to start with that instruction. Where does this go? and what does intro e fulltext mean?
Is it possible to create a User guide? I really like the idea of what your extension can help me to achieve, but at present I'm really unclear as to where to start?
Thank you.

Ok, you are right.
I'm working on a tutorial and it will be released as soon as possible.
Meanwhile,
in ReDJ component you have some "tab". There's an "Pages 404" tab where you can create your custom error page, that completely replace the Joomla one. To use it, just set the id of that page in ReDJ plugin.
As you can see, there are also some "macro" you can use in the HTML. One of these is {article ID}, that let you add an article in the error page. Just replace ID with the number of the article you are interested in.
If you need more help, please, ask me.

Hey, Luigi
I'm having some trouble myself as well. I wanna make an article with the ID number 61. In the plugin I enabled "Custom Error 404 page", entered the ID number 61 and also enabled "Track errors". For now it's not working... The fix is probably simple, bit I just can't seem to see it.
Below is a picture of the settings for better understanding.
Cheers,

Hi,
the ID you can insert in the plugin is the ID of item in ReDJ pages 404. By default you have an italian error page (ID = 1) and an english error page (ID = 2).
If you want to use an article, you have a macro available. So, create a new page 404, and put as HTML only the macro:
Where 61 is the "article ID" to include. Save this page, and use its ID (should be 3 if this is the first time) in the plugin settings.
That's all!
Let me know,
Luigi
